Doula is a Greek term defined as as female helper or maidservant. A Death Doula - also called end of life doula, death midwife or death coach - assists a dying person and their loved ones before, during and after death as part of the care team. Like a birth doula, a death doula provides emotional and physical support, education about the process of dying, preparation for what's to come and guidance through the grieving process.
